Originally astrology and astronomy were the same science. The study of the stars was the study of the human condition. Imagine the impact and implications. Humans turned to the stars to understand their highest potentials on Earth. Science one day drove the spirit of God away from the people. The understanding that all things are connected was abandoned. The science of Astrology became diametric and the new science of Astronomy was born. The secrets of Astrology and the human condition were now considered evil by scientist and the “church.” Astrology survived on the fringes, in almanacs and much of it was lost.
Today’s version of Astrology is quite popular due to a resurgence of interest in self-development during the 60′s-70′s. The Hippie Revolution, brought astrology back in to the minds of the people. Modern day astrology is corrupted and weakened by its history in the shadows. Despite its misgivings, astrology has been experiencing a renaissance which has been reconstructing the foundation and integrity of this metaphysical science. As a result, astrology has won and while it’s brother astronomy continues to ignore its presence, it continues to rise in popularity.
An ancient art, astrology uses a map of the sky at the exact moment you were born. The planets mapped form a circle (360°) called an ecliptic. This circle or wheel is divided into 12 slices, each 30° and corresponding with one of the 12 signs of the zodiac. This map or wheel is commonly known as the natal chart. Depending on which segment or house, the sun was found in determines your Sun Sign. The other planets also find themselves in specific slices or houses. The resulting map weaves a story of an individual’s potential, challenges, and graces.
