Tarot Card of the Day – Six of Swords

Thoth Deck – Science

scienceRich in symbolism, this card depicts the science of sacred geometry. The crossing of lines creates angles, which creates squares. The crossing of all of these lines creates a web and all things within it are connected.  It is also this way with our relationships with everything seen and unseen.

This card at first sight seems really violent, harsh, sharp and mean. I never like seeing it in a reading. The underlying truth about this card is that it isn’t as “bad” as my mere mortal soul sometimes believes.

The six of swords tells us that we have been going through some tough times. The astrological symbol for Mercury found at the top of the card indicates that our relationships with others have suffered, but there has been a change.

Other people haven’t changed, we have. Our self and world perspectives have changed and therefore, we can now find solutions where it seemed there were none before. Reaching this point in the manifestation of our individual reality is quite a blessing indeed and should not be wasted. The swords are a constant reminder of who and what we become when we speak without thinking of where our energies are directed in every exchange. The words we deliver to others not only affect them, but because we are all connected they will affect us too.

In many ways this card is a reminder to use your sword/tongue sparingly. Be it with your children, your spouse, your co-workers, or your parents, we can ill afford to waste time hurting ourselves by hurting others.

Peace☮, Love♥, Light☯.

Hi Astromama,

The crossing of all of these lines creates a web and all things within it are connected.

Very cool. I’ve been thinking a lot about webs recently, and in particular, Spiders. It’s interesting that the Art card, amongst others, also has Spider webs in it.

I’ve been wondering what the connection webs, and in particular Spiders, have in our daily lives. What’s really cool about Spiders is just how humans, as a rule, react to them. In fact, there have been some interesting studies done which might indicate that our fear of Spiders is innate. If this is true, and we have an innate fear of Spiders, I wonder how that colours the symbolic use of Spiders and Spider webs (although admittedly they are different things) in Tarot cards.

Anyway, I think I’ll stop there before my ramble becomes out of control :D ; I really enjoyed your post and its given me something to think about :)

Hi Douglas,

I am always grateful when you swing by and have anything to say! Thank you.

I love spiders and as a matter of fact, my other blog, Adiaha – No Gimmicks, Just Me, I use a fairytale that I began to write as of yet is unfinished. Ananse the spider is my dad! How cool is that. Oh and just for the record my story predates the book, “The Anansi Boys” by Gaiman

“Being of the spider people Ananse the spider-man had hundreds of children. All of them were special to him, but there was one child who was different in a most remarkable way. She was called Adiaha and had two skins. The first made Adiaha look like her mother, who happened to be a spider. The second, which could only be worn after sunset, made her the most beautiful girl in the world.”

That sounds like an awesome idea :)

Adiaha reminds me of someone who, although can appear human, has access (via her Spider origins) to other dimensions.

I’ve often wondered if this was the meaning behind certain visions involving Spiders, and their webs? I wonder if there’s a dual connection between them?

You hit the nail on the head. Numerologically speaking I am a 22. I manifest as I live. I just get jammed sometimes because I keep changing my mind.

The web as a portal….now that is an interesting twist to my fairytale…..
